1957, Pretty Girl Police

Posted by The Progressive Journal in ,

Pageland Police Chief Floyd Cato inspects the "Pretty Girl Police," who were set to patrol the streets for the Barefoot and Apron Day event. Men who weren't barefoot and women not wearing an apron would be fined (this was part of the Watermelon Festival activities.) From left, the ladies are Judy Arant, Bonnie Clark, Margaret Medlin, Gail Griggs and Mary Nelle Watford (though their names probably changed since this photo was taken.)
